Memphis opens conference play Thursday night as they host Navy. Last season Memphis played at Navy and led 21-9 in the fourth quarter before allowing two touchdowns, including the game winner with about two and a half minutes to go. This season this Memphis defense returns eight starters and will see, “A notable improvement from this defense.” According to Phil Steele. Already off to a good start Memphis is 4th in the nation in opponents yards per play.

Memphis plays this Navy team every year and are coming off a bye, so prepping for the triple option is nothing new and they have the added benefit of an extra week to prepare. I am not ready to lay double digits against a service academy so I am on the first half here as I am confident we get a max effort from this Memphis team and Navy goes up against their first real competition this season who has some familiarity with them.
