Raiders +6 vs Rams, 2 units

(1 to 5 unit scale)

The Rams are the popular bet but I think you have to consider the venue and how tough it is to play in Oakland in primetime. Preparation for the Rams is tough for this game because Gruden barely played any of his starters in the preseason and there’s been no film for the Rams to use to prepare for the offense. The line moved because everyone wants to bet the Rams and fade the Raiders without Khalil Mack (and the country is against Jon Gruden). The Rams are more talented but the Raiders added a bunch of guys in the draft and free agency in the front 7 and I think a lot of people are going to be surprised with how strong the Raiders are up front on the defensive line. I think Jared Goff could get pressured up the middle a good amount  and this is also a situation where Goff’s QB coach in 2017 (Greg Olson) is now the Raiders offensive coordinator – he knows Goff’s/the offense’s tendencies and that’s definitely an edge for the Raiders with all summer to prep for opening night. Raiders should play pretty competitive tonight in a big spot for Gruden and have a chance for the outright win.
