Kron Gracie vs Cub Swanson
This is one I’ve had my eyes on since it was announced, the anticipation is almost over.
Cub Swanson, 35, off 4 consecutive losses to reasonably high level competition is back in the Octagon and draws what I would consider a not so favorable matchup. Although Cub Swanson is the better Mixed Martial Artist, key word mixed, he has a glaring hole in his game right where Kron Gracie happens to be one of the best in the world. Cub has a 60% takedown defense over his UFC career and that is just not going to cut it. Cub is terrible off his back, once he is taken down he usually is stuck. Big issue when a Gracie takes you down, its over. The world class Ju-Jitsu of Kron Gracie will be far too much to handle, it’s a matter of time until Cub taps out. Kron’s striking.. yeah not so hot but hes not here to strike, his plan is to grab. So even thought until we get a hold of Cub it might not be pretty, that’s just the way Ju-Jitsu specialists operate. Cub hasn’t knocked anyone out since 2013. Based on that plus having to be careful loading up his hands because it makes you more vulnerable to takedowns, I think that Cubs strength in this matchup is somewhat neutralized, at least a little. Cub also with 11 losses over his career, 7 by submission, mind you almost being knocked out led to a couple. Give me Kron Gracie all day and a choke finish in late R1-mid R2. Gracie is a Superstar in the making and it’s no surprise to see the match makers give him a good name brand fighter that plays so perfectly into Gracie’s strengths.
